Constitutional Affairs Committee

This week the Committee met to discuss its report on small claims.

Education Questions

In oral questions this week I asked the Secretary of State for Education how many pupils were recorded as having at least one incident of truancy

Meetings in Westminster This Week

This week I met representatives of the Computer Sciences Corporation about systems to computerise patients’ medical records.

I was delighted to welcome a Rugby constituent who had travelled to London to take part in a mass lobby about aid to the Palestinian Authority. I have written to both the Chancellor and the Foreign Secretary about it.

EDMs that I have signed this week

662 - Alzheimer's and National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence Decision
896 - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

Constituency Events This Week

On Thursday evening I launched a Calendar to raise money for the Air Ambulance Appeal at The Bear Pub in Bilton.

On Friday I visited Lafarge Cement in Staffordshire with my MEP colleague Philip Bushill Matthews. Lafarge has been burning tyres to make cement for 10 years. Following my visit to Cemex in Rugby, I wanted to see first hand how another community in the West Midlands is dealing with a similar factory.

On Saturday morning I met with activists from ASK – A Station In Kenilworth. I am actively supporting them in their campaign to get a train station in Kenilworth.

Surgeries

This week I held my regular Friday evening surgery in Rugby and my Saturday morning surgery in Kenilworth.
